Steadfast Love
I’ve come across the word “steadfast” a lot recently, and it made me wonder: Why does Scripture so often describe God’s love as steadfast?
I Googled the meaning of it and here it is:
Steadfast :- firmly fixed in place or not subject to change, and also firm in belief, determination and not changing quickly or unexpectedly.
All the different definitions of steadfastness become so sweet and soothing when they’re tied to the love God has for us.
Glimpse of Jesus
I was reading the story of David in 2 Samuel 18, where his own son, Absalom, turns against him and leads a rebellion. Despite all the pain Absalom caused, turning the hearts of Israel against David and seeking to take his life, when news of his son’s death reaches him, David weeps bitterly, crying out:
“O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you!”
how could David mourn so passionately for someone who had hurt him so badly? And then it hit me, this is a glimpse of the heart of Jesus.
Though we too have turned away from God, Jesus chose to take our place. He became a curse, bore our punishment, and died the death we deserved so that we could live. David wished he could have died in his son’s place. Jesus actually did. That’s the depth of His love.
Gift of Holy Spirit
We would not have any redemption story like we do now, if it was not for the steadfast love of our GOD. If it was not for the steadfast love of God, he would not have chosen to come down and die for the ungodly people like us.
..because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:5-6
He in his great love not only redeemed us but also has given us a helper, Holy Spirt GOD that would help us understand the love that he has for us. I heard one preacher say “Even a single ouch of love of GOD you are able to feel is with the help of the Holy Spirit “. It is so true. The greatest gift for us in this present age is the Holy Spirit GOD who opens our blind eyes to this great love.
Nothing can Separate
He in his great love not only has given us this gift of Holy Spirit, he has promised us that there is nothing that could separate us from the love of GOD. I love this verse in Romans 8 in MSG version
Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:…
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Romans 8: 35-39
I mean, do we even deserve this kind of love. Paul is saying that nothing in this world, things present or things to come. Thinkable or unthinkable — absolutely nothing can separate us from Christ Love for us. That is what it means to be steadfast in love.
How is it that we get to experience a love so great? How can it be that we flawed and finite, get to spend this life and all eternity with a God who loves us so deeply?There’s nothing we can do except bow in worship before Him and embrace the love He so freely gives. And from that place of being deeply loved by God, we get to live our lives.
